Floating Seafood Paradise Restaurant (钓鱼台水上海鲜) @ Bukit Tambun, Simpang Ampat, Penang.

Bukit Tambun is the de-facto Seafood place for Penangites- when we want to look for fresh and inexpensive Seafood, Bukit Tambun is the place to go. The recent development of Batu Kawan (the neighborhood next to Bukit Tambun) has brought in large influx of visitors. The demand for fresh Seafood has increased tremendously and many new Seafood restaurants have sprung up in the recent years. Floating Seafood Paradise is one of them. But apart from offering extraordinary seafood dishes, the dining atmosphere is one of a kind too... the restaurant floats. It sits on a man-made fish pond and one would feel the 'rocking dizziness' (like being hit by waves while on boat) while dining in-house but that's part of the package. There's no menu here but the server will recommend whatever they are ready to serve on that day. To find the place, drive along Jalan Bukit Tambun and look for the signage on your right, turn in and you will find it shortly on your left.

Steamed Mantis Prawns on Egg (Rm 29/ by weight)

Baked Crabs (Rm 74 for ours/ Rm 110 per kg)

Steamed Spicy-Sour Clams (Rm 12/ small)

Steamed Pomfret with Laksa sauce (Rm 28/ by weight)

The variety of Seafood here is great- from fresh fish to shell fish and crustacean; there are just too many options. Ordering baked Mud Crabs was a good move, though the prices may seem steep, the mud crab we got was monstrously huge. It weighed 700 over grams and needless to say, it was lip-smacking. The steamed Mantis Prawns on Egg was equally delicious, the crustacean was fresh and the flesh was succulent; served over a thin layer of silky smooth Egg and premium Soy sauce.

The steamed Spicy-Sour Clams was below par, we thought the Clams were not as fresh we would have hoped. While the spicy-sour sauce did hit the mark but we thought the flavors could be bolder. Similarly, the steamed Pomfret with their signature Laksa sauce was somewhat less-satisfying. The flavor was too strong that it overshadowed the fish or the fact that we have old-fashioned palate and prefer the traditional way of serving steamed fish over Soy sauce.
