Captain A Seafood House @ Taman Lembah Permai, Bukit Mertajam, Penang.

The "pick your Seafood on the table" trend has spread over to mainland; the newly opened Captain A Seafood House at Taman Lembah Permai, Bukit Mertajam is one of the latest cafes that adopts this serving method. Tucked in one of the shop houses at Taman Lembah Permai, Captain A Seafood House serves its Seafood on the table (the standard menu similar to most of its competitors), with a few special twists of theirs. The signage does not suggest much on what are the items they serve but those who are in the know will eventually make their way there for their Seafood. The place is fully air-conditioned but the seats could be more spacious; affordably priced if that's your concern.

King Prawn Combo (Rm 78.80)

Seafood soaked Cooked Rice (Rm 12.80/ small)

Mix Seafood Platter (Rm 28.80)

Their Seafood on the table series comes in different combination and 5 types of sauces to choose from. We had the simplest King Prawn Combo with signature sauce. It has traits of Mayonnaise, Black Pepper and perhaps a hint of Curry Powder but it was good. It has a mellow sweetness towards the end and blended perfectly well with the shellfish. The basic set meant to serve 2-3 pax consists of some Corn, Broccoli, Mussels, Prawns, Squids, Potatoes and Clams (served with either Rice or Mantau); those who have deeper pocket could opt to add some premium ingredients. The Seafood was fresh but a pity that the Squid was overcooked and shrunk.

To fill up the tummies, we had their Seafood soaked Cooked Rice. The bomb was the delicious seafood broth and the extra sprinkles of Rice puff, which introduced an addictive crispy bite to the dish. It was most comforting, a must have dish when visiting Captain A Seafood House.

  2. I have yet try any spread-food-on-table & eat-with-your-hand style restaurant because I think they are overpriced. I can have better portion at any Chinese restaurant with that price :P
