Casa Calda Cafe @ Bangkok Lane, Pulau Tikus, Penang.

If you are old enough or a huge fan of Pasta, chances of you hearing the name "Get Em Smack" could be high; previously at Penang Times Square, "Get Em Smack" was said to serve some of the best Pasta in town! Business operation was then ceased due to some reasons and now, they have returned as "Casa Calda Cafe". The newly opened cafe at Bangkok Lane preserves some of the regulars' favorite Pasta dishes (except that prices have gone up) while additional offering such as Breakfast items and Desserts have also added to the menu. It settles in one of the houses along that street; inside, it has a simple-homey setting with a few tables (air-conditioned though). It can be an ideal spot for early encounters (it opens as early as 8:30 am) to grab a quick meal or sweet treat to sweeten the day.

Mango Crepe (Rm 15.50)

Mixed Berries Pop Cake (Rm 15.50)

Make your call to stay for lunch or proceed straight to their range of desserts at Casa Calda Cafe. There are 2 types of worth-trying desserts here- Pop Cake or French Crepe. The former one tastes like cream-filled Eggette, sans the crispiness (or Choux Pastry) but served with sweet Berries compote. The Pop Cake requires 20 minute wait and sharing is recommended.

French Crepe is another type of sweet treat offered by Casa Calda, it possessed a paper thin-texture wrapped with cream and diced fruits (in our case- Mangoes), jeweled with a dollop of Vanilla Ice Cream. The texture of the Crepe was fine and thin but probably a tad too creamy to my liking. It appeared to be decent for my partners in crime though.

Eryngii Mushroom Pasta (Rm 21.50)

Cheesy Egg in the Hole (Rm 10.50)

Get Em Smack aced in their Pasta dishes and how could we miss that in Casa Calda? We had their signature Eryngii Mushroom Pasta; it was rather simple and straight-forward- pan fry Eryngii Mushrooms with Butter and Garlic, quick stir fry with Spaghetti and season to taste. Casa Calda did it right but the texture of the Spaghetti could be more al-dente.

Cheesy Egg in the Hole on the other hand, was a disappointment. We could not agree on the use of ordinary Gardenia-alike bread. The filling was weak (egg with a sliver of Cheese), texture was dry and the dish lacked of an "x-factor".
