Ngon Vietnamese Restaurant @ Love Lane, Georgetown, Penang.

One of the best brunch spots at the heartland of Georgetown- Jeeves is closed. A new management took over and relaunched the place as a new Vietnamese restaurant- Ngon. Not much has changed on the interior but the menu was completely revamped. The menu is not big, we were quite disappointed that there were a handful of items were not available on our visit. One of the quintessential items for Vietnamese food spots- Beef Pho... was not available either (on our visit). Prices are of standard-average but the overall dining experience signals weak pulling factor, they will need to come out with more promising items if they wish to do well.

Banh Xeo (Rm 13.50)

Goi Cuon (Rm 9.90)

Banh Xeo is common but not many could do it right (not even the one I had at Ben Tanh Market, Ho Chi Minh City), many could appear to be too greasy but we were glad that Ngon's was alright. It was served together with Stir Fried Minced Pork and some Shrimps with cooked Sprouts (some serve them raw). We enjoyed it with the sweet and spicy Vietnamese dipping sauce and some fresh Thai Basil leaves. Goi Cuon, Vietnamese Spring Rolls were disappointingly average. The texture was alright and the filling was standard but it lacked of the X factor to impress us. Also, we thought the price could be cheaper considering a serving portion of 3 Spring Rolls only. Nevertheless, we were happy that two types of sauces were served to us- Hoisin sauce and the Nuoc Cham

Bun Thit Bo Xao (Rm 11.50)

For a less-sinful meal, try Bun Thit Bo Xao... Grilled Beef served with crunchy greens and Vermicelli Noodles, doused over Vietnamese sweet and spicy sauce. The beautiful part of the dish was the generously added juicy greens and the caramelized Onions for the gentle sweetness. The Beef's seasoning was spot-on but the texture could be more tender, a comforting dish that I would not mind to eat on a regular basis.
