Moulmein Gourmet @ Pulau Tikus, Penang.

The bustling neighborhood of Moulmein at Pulau Tikus welcomes a new establishment, that sets to offer a small but homey, unpretentious Western fare. Expect no groundbreaking-menu but some familiar Western dishes that can be accepted by all age-range, such as Aglio Olio, Chicken Chop etc. Prices are fair but the selection may be overly safe for the adventurous. The menu did not manage to surprise us, so as the interior decor. There were some knit-knacks adorning the walls but we thought they were immaterial and not worth a mention here. Moulmein Gourmet serves Modern Dim Sum in the morning, Japanese-Fusion Set for lunch and Western menu in the evening. Prices quoted on the menu are based on set-orders, minus Rm 3 for ala-carte orders.

We thought they could have presented Grilled Barramundi (Ala-Carte/ Rm 18.90) in a more presentable way. Apart from that, the dish did manage to leave us some positive impression. The Barramundi/ Siakap was nicely charred, served with a creamy-rich White sauce, completed with a dash of Lemon Juice and Lemon Zest. Sides were blanched Broccoli, mashed Potato and buttered Corn. To my surprise, the Fish holds a firm and meaty bite (almost like Chicken Breast), quite a contrary to the mushy-soft Dory fish. It was pleasingly easy to enjoy the meat, sans the bones. Every single piece was reasonably seasoned. A protein-packed dish especially suitable for body builders.

Prawn Aglio e Olio (Ala-Carte/ Rm 19.90) is one of their signature dishes but we did not think it was out of the world good. It was decent; garlicky with a gentle chili-kick and generously sprinkled with Cheese Powder. The Shrimps were bouncy but the Spaghetti was slightly overcooked to my liking. Additionally, the serving portion may be a little small for some eaters.
