Wine connoisseur- Mr. Gilbert Voo (of Albert Wines) introducing the brands and labels of the evening.

Mr. John Selva (Food and Beverage Manager of Four Points by Sheraton Penang) serving the wines to the guests.

The flow of the wine-tasting was meticulously designed. Guests were served with a refreshing start of De Bortoli Sparkling Brut Non-Vintage (Australia)- Rm 60/ glass, Rm 250/ bottle. Sparkling wines are best cold as it helps the wine to hold its effervescence. The indication of sweetness for sparkling wines is always cryptic, the Brut here refers to Dry; which means dry in style and has low-level of sugar left in the bottle. It was straight-forward and light on the palate, with a zesty citrus and fruity-sweet aroma. This Brut is definitely a note-worthy pick if you are looking for a decent bottle of Sparkling Wine.

The Whites were Parellada Torres Mas Rabell (Spain)- Rm 35/ glass, Rm 150/ bottle; Bianco, Frescobaldi Remole Toscana (Italy)- Rm 170/ bottle and Sauvignon Blanc, Deen Bortoli Vat 2 (Australia)- Rm 160/ bottle. Parellada Torres Mas Rabell (Spain) was soft, straight-forward and mild in flavor; smooth but very easy to start with. However, my favorite (for White) of the evening goes to Sauvignon Blanc, Deen Bortoli Vat 2, it has a very refreshing flavor with a hint of tropical fruit. It was a little dry but it does not come with a disturbing tartness; certainly a lovely yet inexpensive White to pair with your Seafood.

The Reds, on the other hand, were Carinena Garnacha, Torres Mas Rabell (Spain)- Rm 35/ glass, Rm 170/ bottle; Sangiovese, Frescobaldi Remole Toscana IGT (Italy)- Rm 140/ bottle and Shiraz, Deen Bortoli Vat 8 (Australia)- Rm 160/ bottle. Sangiovese, Frescobaldi Remole Toscana was my favorite of the night, it was a little strong at first but it becomes smoother and lighter on the palate after a few sips. I don't seem to appreciate Wines with stronger tannin and this suits my perfectly well with its soft tannin and fruity finish.

There are more options available on the menu, simply drop by The Best Brew at Four Points by Sheraton Penang to check it out. Remember to sign up for the SPG loyalty program if you wish to save more.

Savory Cheeses (Blue Cheese, Brie, Cheddar), Fruits and Canape were served to go with the wine.
