Pitt Street Koay Teow Th'ng (椰脚粿条汤) @ Carnavon Street, Georgetown, Penang.

You may ask whether the location is at Pitt Street or Carnavon Street... The cafe itself is located at Carnavon Street which they have moved from Pitt Street few years back. I have been a regular customer ever since they were situated at Pitt Street, I remember my parents used to bring me there after school when I was still at primary school. This place is very famous not only among locals but tourists as well, their Koay Teow Th'ng often sold out before noon during weekends. Be sure to be there earlier if you wish to savor their smooth and savory Koay Teow Th'ng. This is definitely the place that I will be heading to when I am craving for Koay Teow Th'ng!

Koay Teow Th'ng (Soup/ Rm 3.40 for small), as you might have realized the big chunks of Pork on top of the Koay Teow (Flat Noodles), it comes with some of their home made Eel Balls and some Lettuce as well as a generous amount of Pork Lards. The Koay Teow came in smooth but not in a clump, making it very delicate although the Eel Balls are not as bouncy as they may seemed, but one can slowly taste the hint of mild seafood-sweetness from the Eel Balls. I also like their broth being flavorful but does not possess a very porky-smell. Truly a comfort food for me and I believe, many Penangites too.

One may opt for their Dry version of Koay Teow (Rm 3.40 for small) too. Similarly to soup version, it comes with some Pork Meat, Lettuce and Eel Balls. It is all depend on your own preferences. As for me, I would definitely go for their Soup version for the tasty broth and smoother texture. You may ask to have Yellow Noodles mixed with your Koay Teow too, the combination brings out a different texture.

It is not just because of their Koay Teow that attracts me but also their home made Chilies (Bird's Eye Chilies/ Cili Padi) where the chopped Bird's Eye Chilies will be mixed with some chopped Garlic. Some fresh Lime Juice will then be added together with the Chilies and Garlic, as well as some Soy Sauce. Not just appetizing, the Chilies also give an extra kick to the Koay Teow Th'ng. The best part is, you may shovel as much of Chilies as you like.
