i-Steamboat CIty 壹鍋豐 @ Lorong Selamat, Penang.

Operating in the bustling street of Lorong Selamat Penang, i-steamboat city is a new eatery set up not long ago which situated right opposite the famous Red Hat Char Koay Teow. As the name suggested, it offers steamboat, be it buffet style or ala carte. Ambiance-wise, the place is air-conditioned and they are using the induction cooker for the steamboat. There could be some improvements needed for their service due to a lack of man power. Overall, I find it a good place for gathering but it was just okay in terms of value in return. If you are a steamboat lover, try it out and let me know in the comments!

i-Steamboat City offers 4 types of soup bases in total, namely Fish Soup, Tom Yum, Satay as well as Sze Chuan Sour and Spicy soup. Each diner will be given their own pot of soup as well as their own soup base. I was not too sure but I felt the thirst right after the meal which probably they have added quite an amount of Monosodium Glutamate (MSG), I had Fish soup by the way.

Priced at Rm 28.90, the choices for their steamboat buffet were rather limited but giving a thought that they did offer some seafood such as Octopus, Abalone Flavor Seasoned Clams, Prawns and Scallops, so I’d say it was okay. Their Deep Fried Fish and Meat Balls were good according to my friends. Other ingredients were common, but one thing bothers me, which they did not offer any Tofu. I am a huge fan of Tofu and it was nowhere to be seen that night.  However, things will be even better if they could have included drinks into their buffet package. Yes, drinks are not included. Diners need to order for their drinks at their own cost.

There were only 3 types of sauces available, one of them was Chili sauce but I couldn’t really describe the remaining two. They were something like Thai style sauce, sweet with a hint of sourness, not too shabby but I would prefer something hot and simple, like chopped Bird Eye Chilies.
