Yum Cha (饮茶) Hong Kong Dim Sum @ Lorong Selamat, Penang.

When you are finding for Dim Sum (点心) as your breakfast, do you look for other types of food as well or you just prefer Dim Sum alone ? If you are looking for some other mouth-watering food, but wish to have Dim Sum at the same time, then you would probably want to make a trip to this place to satisfy all your cravings. Located at one of the famous streets among the tourists, Lorong Selamat, Yum Cha is situated exactly opposite to the famous Char Koay Teow stall and few doors away from Prawn Mee Shop and De Title Dining Cabin. Apart from the usual Dim Sum, Yum Cha offers a wide variety of noodles as well, ranging from the commonly found Char Hor Fun, Hokkien Char to the rarely seen Steamed Fish Head Bee Hoon (Vermicelli Noodles), which my main focus of this post will be placed on this dish, Steam Fish Head Bee Hoon. Same problems exist for any other food outlets at Lorong Selamat, parking can be very troublesome, you might need to pay extra more to park at the parking space, or walk further down the street for some parking. Price-wise, was reasonable and you might want to find a seat near the entrance, else you will find it very hot.

Steam Fish Head Bee Hoon (Vermicelli Noodles, Rm20), half of a fresh fish head was placed on top of a bed of Bee Hoon (Vermicelli Noodles) and topped with the spicy-sourish Teo Chewy Sauce (潮州蒸). Some chopped pickled vegetables, lemon grass (Serai in Malay), chopped tomatoes, chilies and some fresh coriander. Served while scorching hot, the appetizing sour sauce complemented well with the fish. The Bee Hoon has successfully absorbed the flavor from both fish and the sauce, making it very delicious and flavorful. The portion was good enough for three of us, you might ask for a bigger portion too. Be sure to make a reservation of the fish head or be there earlier, especially during weekends or you might miss the chance to savor this heavenly good Steamed Fish Head Bee Hoon. Recommended.

It is always good to see that the Dim Sum are being steamed and served scorching hot. Yum Cha has a wide variety of Dim Sum just like any other Dim Sum outlets.

The Steamed Fish Head Bee Hoon was big enough for us, but we were not satisfied just for that, so we had some Dim Sum as well, namely two plates of Steamed Fish Balls, Egg Tarts, Deep Fried Prawn Dumplings, Siew Mai (Pork Dumplings) and Steamed Chee Cheong Fun (Rice Noodles). Overall, they were pretty normal and nothing to shout over. I would say that their Egg Tarts and Fish Balls were decent while the Steamed Chee Cheong Fun was a bit bland in my opinion, could be because of the soy sauce used. Prices were reasonable just like other Dim Sum outlets. Total damage for all these Dim Sum was Rm14.30.
